La Constitución de Apatzingán de 1814, a pesar de no haber tenido vigencia plena, significó el primer paso para dar inicio a la vida constitucional mexicana. Esta primera Constitución debe tanto a la Constitución de los Estados Unidos como a la Constitución de Cádiz sus fundamentos teóricos; y constituyó sin duda, la primera aplicación de las ideas liberales en México.

The Apatzingan’s Constitution of 1814, in spite of not having had full force, meant a significant first step to start the Mexican constitutional life. This first Constitution owes its theoretical grounds to the Constitution of The United States as well as to the Constitution of Cadiz. This document was, without any doubt, the first application of the Liberal ideas in Mexico.
