La práctica de galardonar y homenajear a autores y obras siempre ha sido un instrumento importante del sistema literario y de la política cultural: Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar los premios literarios de Alemania durante el siglo XX. Se presentan premios importantes y su función, así como sus similitudes y diferencias. Además, se pretende analizar los premios alemanes más recientes como signo de una búsqueda de un premio literario nacional, eficaz y a su vez atractivo para el público.

The practice of awarding and honouring authors and literary works has always been an important instrument for the literary system and for the cultural policy of every country: This article intends to make an historical analysis of literary prizes in Germany during the 20th Century. The most important prizes and their functions will be analysed here, along with their similarities and differences. Furthermore we will focus our attention on the most recent German prizes and on their main features in order to understand how literary prizes work nowadays in Germany.

Die Auszeichnung und Ehrung von Autoren und Werken gelten seit der Antike als wichtige Instrumente des Literaturbetriebs und der Kulturpolitik: Dieser Beitrag setzt sich als Ziel, eine geschichtliche Analyse des Wesens der Literaturpreise während des 20. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland auszuführen. Es werden hier die wichtigsten Preise vorgestellt und ihre Funktionen sowie ihre Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede erörtert. Ferner wird versucht, eine Linie zu skizzieren, die die Suche des deutschen Literaturbetriebs nach einem nationalen, wirkungsvollen und für das Publikum attraktiven Literaturpreis zusammenfasst.
