El término «acortamiento del tiempo» tiene relación con la tradición judeocristiana que anuncia el fin de los tiempos como un momento en que Dios, en honor a los elegidos, acortará los días y las horas, pues sin ello nadie se salvaría. Mientras que en este sentido la salvación está asociada a una intervención divina, la tesis de la aceleración invertiría la fórmula precedente responsabilizando al ser humano del estrechamiento del tiempo. Pero si el acortamiento del tiempo en el apocalipsis se orienta a la salvación del mundo, ¿hacia dónde apunta la aceleración, idea secularizada del acortamiento de los tiempos? ¿Qué es lo que justifica el aumento en la velocidad de concreción de tareas que anteriormente tomaban considerables cantidades de tiempo y hoy son efectuadas en pocas horas? ¿Cómo justificar el frenesí por obtener lo que se pretende en el menor tiempo posible?.

The term «time shortening» is related to the Judeo-Christian tradition that announces the end of time as the moment when God, honoring the elected, will shorten the days and hours, for without doing it no one would be saved. While salvation is, in this sense, associated with the divine intervention, the thesis of acceleration reverses the above formula by blaming the human being for having narrowed the time. However, if time shortening is aimed at the salvation of the world in the apocalypse, where does the acceleration point, that is, the secularized notion of time shortening? What justifies the increasing speed in the realization of tasks that formerly took considerable time and today are made in a few hours? How to justify the frenzy to get what is intended in the shortest time possible?.
