    Rosalía de Castro siempre temió que su familia contrajera tuberculosis.

    Su hijo, el pintor Ovidio Murguía Castro, fallecería de ella. Y junto con él, en los albores del siglo XX, murieron apenas cumplidos 30 años, otros prometedores artistas gallegos (Jenaro Carrero Fernández, Ramón Parada Justel y Joaquín Vaamonde Cornide), que constituyen la llamada “Generación doliente” (“Xeración doente”). Tal tragedia influyó en la obra de importantes literatos gallegos como Emilia Pardo Bazán o Wenceslao Fernández Flórez. Aquí se rememora dicha desventura, con algunas particularidades de la lucha en Galicia contra tal proceso y, en los principios del siglo XXI, se menciona su situación actual y se alerta sobre su posible rebrote o las dificultades de tratamiento. Ello exige continuar con las estrategias de vigilancia y erradicación.

    Rosalia de Castro always feared that his family contracted tuberculosis.

    In fact, her son, the painter Ovidio Murguía Castro, would die of it. And along with him, in the early XXth century died, with nearly 30 years other promising Galician artists (Jenaro Carrero Fernández, Ramón Parada Justel and Joaquín Vaamonde Cornide) members of the so called “Suffering Generation”. This tragedy influenced the work of important Galician writers such as Emilia Pardo Bazán or Wenceslao Fernández Flórez. Here is remembered that misfortune, some particularities of the defeat against tuberculosis in Galicia and, in the early XXIth century, its current situation with an alert about the possible outbreak or treatment difficulties. All that requires continuing the strategies of monitoring and eradication.
