    Américo Castro manipula y falsifica la letra y el espíritu de fragmentos fundamentales de El cautivo y El amante liberal. Frente a la ingenuidad que atribuye a las Novelas ejemplares, distintos autores encuentran significados diversos y contrastados en ellas; en particular, en El amante liberal. Se expone la teoría de que la posibilidad y/o realización del «matrimonio cristiano» puede ser la clave de la ejemplaridad de las Novelas ejemplares, «de todas juntas como de cada una de por sí».

    Américo Castro manipulates and falsifies the writing and the core of essential fragments of El cautivo and El amante liberal. In contrast with the naivety which he identifies in the Novelas ejemplares, a number of authors find in them different and opposing meanings; especially in El amante liberal. It has been theorized that the possibility and/or accomplishment of the «Christian marriage» could constitute the key of the exemplary nature of the Novelas ejemplares when they are considered both as a whole and by themselves.
