  Las relaciones entre medicina y teatro cobran especial relevancia en la obra dramática de Shakespeare, y Ricardo II es un buen ejemplo. En esta tragedia histórica, el dramaturgo despliega sobre la página y sobre el escenario un variado abanico de conceptos médicos: cólera, sangría, incisión, paciente, médico, salud, enfermedad, purga, medicina, entre otros. En su estrategia compositiva, Shakespeare utiliza dichos conceptos literal y metafóricamente para construir y entretejer de manera magistral las esferas física, emocional, mental y política de los principales personajes.

  The relationship between medicine and theater is especially relevant in Shakespeare’s work, and Richard II is a good example. In this history play, the playwright displays on both page and stage a wide variety of medical concepts: choler, blood-letting, incision, patient, physician, health, illness, purging, medicine, and more. As part of his compositional strategy, Shakespeare uses these concepts literally and metaphorically to ingeniously build and weave together the main characters’ physical, emotional, mental, and political lives.
