Quinientos años son muchos o pocos según para qué cosas. A nuestro entender, la única revolución en el ámbito de los estudios maquiavelianos es trabajar para conocer, en la medida de lo posible, cada vez mejor, qué quiso decir y de qué modo Maquiavelo cuando escribió lo que escribió. Este es el camino, erudito y científico, para reconocer (y restituir) la propia naturaleza de la obra maquiaveliana por lo que fue y no por lo que nos gustaría que fuera. Ya sugeríamos aquí que era necesario publicar un nuevo Principe en castellano que fuera capaz de abordar los problemas actuales de la literatura crítica, que así pudiera ser de utilidad, no sólo ni únicamente para el lector medio, sino para todos aquellos que deseen interesarse en la investigación de la obra maquiaveliana. Según los elementos de prueba que he podido ahora presentar, la edición del texto que presenta Colihue ha aumentado esa necesidad.

Five hundred years are many or few years depending for what (purpose). In our view, the only revolution in the Machiavellian studies is to work for getting a better understanding of what he meant and how Machiavelli wrote what he wrote. The scholarly and scientiûc approach is the way to recognize (and restore) the nature of the Machiavelli's work and legacy for what it was and not for what we would like it to be. Some time ago, we suggested that it was necessary to publish a new Spanish translation of The Prince that could address the current issues of the critical literature. This edition would be useful not only for the average reader but also for all those who are willing to study the Machiavelli's writings. In a recent edition published by Ediciones Colihue, we found new evidence to draw attention to this need.
