    Our society has progressively adopted dogs and cats into the family circle. It is therefore logical to examine the question of their welfare. But, does it suffice that man "loves" his pet for it to be happy? The ethological approach shows that this dogma is not only insufficient but also harmful. Easily observed clinical symptoms allow to show the many incongruities between the needs of the animals and human emotional motives (8 photos, 2 figures, 2 boxes, 22 references).

    Nos sociétés ont progressivement assimilé les carnivores domestiques à la vie familiale. Dès lors, il est tout à fait naturel que se pose la question de l'évaluation de leur bien-être. Suffit-il que l`homme "l'aime" pour que l'animal soit heureux? L'approche éthologique démontre que ce dogme, loin d'être uniquement insuffisant, est aussi nuisible. Des signes cliniques aisément observables démontrent les nombreuses incongruences entre besoins de l'animal et motivations affectives humaines (8 photos, 2 figures, 2 encadrés, 22 références).
