Evaluación de la falta de grano en la mazorca como consecuencia del daño que causa la diabrótica (Diabrotica spp.) a los estilos tiernos del maíz

    El autor evalúa si el daño que la diabrótica causa a los jilotes tiernos del maiz, ocasiona falta de grano en la mazorca. En una distribución de cuadro latino 4X 4, se prueban diferentes tamaños de estilos recortados con tijeras, simulando el daño del insecto, y se evalúa el peso de las mazorcas, así como la existencia de fallas de polinización.

    In 1990 the effect produced by cutting young styles of corn before polinization was studied, simulating the damage the adults suffered from  "diabrotica " species on corn produced in the valley of Toluca, State of México.  Four treatments were tested in a latin square 4X4 experimental design. The variable evaluated was the mean weigth of the cob of maize at harvesting time,the analysis of variability was done and the Duncan test was applied lo mean comparison. The differences between means were nal signifcant at a 0.05 level.It is conduded that the damage caused by Diabrotica spp. on adull plants does not reduce grain fomation of the cob of maize, and the fertilization of plants occurs normally, even when young styles are damaged.The same resulls were observed In highly damaged plants of comercial crops where the com grain number was not decreased.
