E l artículo analiza la población, la sociedad, la economía y la política de Herrera de Alcántara y la lucha por el control democrático del poder, así como la represión sufrida por sus habitantes por parte del régimen franquista. Una característica importante del municipio es el idioma de sus vecinos: el galaicoportugués.
El estudio muestra la voluntad de lucha pacífica y democrática de los herrereños/as por mejorar sus condiciones de vida, trabajo y libertades siempre a apoyados en sus organizaciones y en la legislación republicana.

The article discusses population, society, politics and the economy of the Herrera de Alcántara and the struggle for the democratic control of power, as well as the repression suffered by its inhabitants during the Franco dictatorship.
An important feature of the municipality is the laguage of their neighbours: the galician-portuguese. The study shows the willingness of peaceful and democratic struggle of the herrereños/as to improve their working and living conditions as well as their freedom, always supported in their organizations and in the republican law.
