Este artículo analiza las festividades de carácter luctuoso celebradas en honor a la Monarquía en la ciudad de Palencia en el siglo XVIII, con los primeros Borbones. Las diversas instituciones –civiles y eclesiásticas– que conforman el poder municipal ponen en marcha una serie de mecanismos con el fin de ejecutar las funciones fúnebres que la Corona imponía para asegurar su permanencia y legitimarse en el tiempo que abarca el Antiguo Régimen.

This article analyses the mournful rites celebrated in honour of the monarchy in Palencia throughout the 18th century with the first Bourbons. The different institutions –civil and ecclesiastical– that make up municipal power take steps in order to carry out the diverse funeral rites that the monarchy imposed to ensure its own prevalence and legitimacy in the period that the Old Regime spans.
