    El cólera no supuso seria amenaza para la salud pública mundial hasta el siglo XIX. En España llegó a ser un gran problema sanitario hasta que en 1883 Koch descubre el Bacillus vírgula. Actualmente, resurge con nuevas capacidades donde se sufre hambruna. Hoy sabemos que la bacteria del cólera prolifera formando reservorios en comunidades llamadas “biofilmes”. Donde hay queratina crece e intercambia información genética con sus congéneres para aumentar su supervivencia y hacerse resistentes a los antibióticos..

    Cholera was not a great threat for the world’s public health until the 19th century. In Spain it became a big health risk until Koch discovered Bacillus vírgula in 1883. Today it rises again with new strength in areas suffering from famine. We now know that the cholera bacterium thrives forming reservoirs in communities known as ‘biofilms’.
