  The motivation and work meaning inventory has four scales. Two scales are about the facets of the meaning of work: values attributes (how work should be), and descriptive attributes (how work actually is). Other scales refer to the components of motivation: the expectation (what it is hoped that the work be), and the instrumentality (how much the effort or dedication to work imply obtaining the desirable results or not). This study aims to improve the inventory, searching for better coefficients of consistency, and verifying the stability of factor structures of thee scales. A sample of 525 participants completed the inventory. Of these, 55.2% were health professionals, 23.4% were workers from a distributor of oil, and 21,3%, of a government bank. The factor analysis and Cronbach's Alpha coefficients indicated that the changes resulted in better consistency and factor structures.

  O Inventário da Motivação e Significado do Trabalho compõe-se de quatro escalas, sendo duas referentes às facetas do significado do trabalho - atributos valorativos (como o trabalho deve ser) e atributos descritivos (como o trabalho é concretamente) - e duas referentes aos componentes da motivação - expectativas (o que se espera que o trabalho seja) e instrumentalidade (quanto o esforço ou dedicação ao trabalho garante a obtenção de resultados desejáveis ou não). O estudo tem por objetivo aperfeiçoar o inventário, buscando melhores índices de consistência e verificando a estabilidade da estrutura fatorial das escalas. Aplicou-se o inventário numa amostra de 525 participantes, dos quais 55,2% eram profissionais de saúde, 23,4%, trabalhadores de uma distribuidora de petróleo e 21,3%, bancários de um Banco de economia mista. As análises fatoriais confirmatórias e os coeficientes Alfa de Cronbach das escalas indicaram que as modificações implementadas implicaram melhorias de consistência e nas estruturas fatoriais.
