    Este artigo busca compreender a noção de liberdade em dois autores do neorrepublicanismo, John Pocock e Philip Pettit, bem como procura analisar qual a relação que os autores estabelecem entre a liberdade política ea virtude cívica. Pocock trabalha com a perspectiva de um republicanismo cívico e advoga a ideia de que a participação política do cidadão e a liberdade tem um valor intrínseco. Na tradição republicana, Pettit desenvolve a perspectiva neorromana, que entende a participação política de modo  instrumental na defesa da liberdade política. O constitucionalismo  republicano, juntamente com a democracia contestatória, poderia garantir o ideal de liberdade como não dominação.

    This article aims to understand the notion of freedom in the two authors of neo-republicanism, John Pocock and Philip Pettit, and seeks analyze the relationship that the authors establish between political freedom and civic virtue. Pocock works with the prospect of a civic republicanism and advocates the idea that the political participation of citizens and freedom has intrinsic value. Within the republican tradition, Pettit develops the prospect neo-Roman, who understands the political participation so instrumental in the defense of political freedom. The constitutionalism republican, along with contestatory democracy could ensure the ideal of freedom as non-domination.
