  • Resumen
    • The stereochemistry of octahedral coordination compounds is an important subject and a busy field in inorganic research. For the cis-bis(chelate) or tris(chelate) octahedral complexes, the helicity symbols lambda or delta are used but, to the best of our knowledge, only two methods have been devised for helping with the assignment of these stereochemical descriptors. Both of these methods may prove too demanding for students so we have developed a straightforward method (which doesn't depend on the orientation of the two-dimensional drawing), in which the chirality is derived from the simple left-right concept without any need to compare the helicity of the structures. This is a three-dimensional concept that can also be applied to cis complexes containing only two chelate ligands.
