The presence of Germanics within the Spanish military in Late Modern History can only be considered as most sporadic. Even though there were times when the German presence was more noticeable as during the Civil Wars the truth is that the evolution of the modern armies prevented the creation of foreign soldiers units as in the Early Modern Age. Even though in Spain the creation of a truly national Army statewide and compulsory occurred later than in other European States, the truth is that this on-going development meant that the amount of foreign soldiers in the ranks was much more reduced than before. Thus, only on occasions with an ideological or romantic flavour or even the combination of both like in the First Carlist War or the Spanish Civil War, was the presence of Germanic troops in the Spanish Armies evident at all.
