The assistence of parturient women by obstetric nurses: In search for the respect of nature

    The objective of this study was to characterize the parturients, through their age and the number of antenatal consultations, who were assisted in a maternity hospital at the city of Rio de Janeiro, and to analyze the assistance carried out by the nurses in the accompaniment of these parturients. It is a quantitative and descriptive study with statistical and documental analysis. The research data have been obtained from a register book entitled "Childbirths Attended by Nurses", where the actions of the nurse during the assistance to the parturients are registered. In this research 938 childbirths have been studied in the period of 2005 to 2006. This study identified that even though the assistance to the woman in labor and delivery has been suffering changes with the performance of the midwifes, it is still necessary to minimize even more the interventionist actions, valuing the active participation of the woman during her labor and delivery.

    Este estudo objetivou caracterizar as parturientes, através da idade e número de consultas pré-natal, atendidas em uma maternidade do município do Rio de Janeiro e analisar a assistência realizada pelos enfermeiros no acompanhamento destas parturientes. A metodologia utilizada foi quantitativa, descritiva, de análise documental e estatística. Os dados foram coletados de um livro de registro intitulado “Partos Assistidos por Enfermeiros”, onde são registradas as ações do enfermeiro durante a assistência à parturiente. Foram estudados 938 partos, no período de 2005 a 2006. Este estudo identificou que embora a assistência à gestante em trabalho de parto e parto venha sofrendo mudanças com a atuação do enfermeiro obstetra, ainda é preciso minimizar mais as ações intervencionistas, valorizando a participação ativa da mulher durante seu trabalho de parto e parto.
