    Objective: identify the perception of the death front nurse of the patient of Adult Intensive Care Unit and discuss like the perception of the death influences in the care of nursing. Methods: we will utilize the descriptive-exploratory methodology, through the technical one of questionnaire is structured applied to active nurses in Adult Intensive Care Unit of a private unit located in the Town of Niterói in the year of 2007. Results: of the analysis of the facts arose the following categories: 1) Multiplicity of feelings and 2) care like answer take HIM. Conclusion: It showed up in this I study that, work next to sick terminals, is an outstanding factor that elevates the difficulties, and passes it be hurt as sign of failure in imminence of death. But that, independent of that, does not interfere in the care, where were detached the priorities with the family and the comfort of the patient in general, as well as the respect and the preparation of the body.

    Objetivo: identificar a percepção do enfermeiro frente morte do paciente de UTI Adulto e discutir como a percepção da morte influencia no cuidado de enfermagem. Métodos: pesquisa de campo do tipo descritiva-exploratória com abordagem qualitativa, realizada através da técnica de questionário semi-estruturado aplicado a enfermeiros atuantes em UTI Adulto de uma unidade privada localizada no município de Niterói no ano de 2007. A análise dos dados foi realizada a partir da Análise Temática. Resultados: da análise dos dados surgiram as seguintes categorias: 1) Multiplicidade de sentimentos e 2) O cuidar como resposta. Conclusão: Evidenciou-se neste estudo que, trabalhar junto a pacientes terminais, é um fator marcante que eleva as dificuldades, e passa a ser sentida como sinal de fracasso em iminência de morte. Mas que, independente disso, não interfere no cuidado, onde se destacaram as prioridades com a família e o conforto do paciente em geral, assim como o respeito e o preparo do corpo.
