Benito Arias Montano fue designado por Felipe II y por el Duque de Alba para la elaboración del Index expurgatorius. Fue publicado en 1571 en Amberes en la imprenta de Cristóbal Plantino. Con el deseo de encontrar puntos convergentes entre la cultura alemana y la figura del humanista español, en este artículo rescataremos de ese índice los nombres de autores relacionados con los territorios actualmente germano-parlantes (Alemania, Austria, Suiza y Lichstenstein) y que entonces pertenecían al Sacro Imperio Romano-Germánico. Conocer esos autores nos permitirá conocer también a qué humanistas alemanes y a qué obras tuvo acceso Benito Arias Montano.

Benito Arias Montano was designed by Felipe II and the Duke of Alba to elaborate the Index expurgatorius, that it was published in 1571 in Antwerpen in the press of Christoph Plantinus. With the desire of finding common points between German culture and this humanist, in this article we will rescue from these list names of authors related to the current German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Lichstenstein), which at that time belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. Knowing these authors will make us able to know which german humanists and which works of them Benito Arias Montano knew.
