    • A trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of high moisture corn (HMC) of dent and flinth maize variteties on dry matter (DM) intake, milk yield and composition, and rumen environment in dairy cows grazing an annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum cv. Grasslands Tama). Forty Holstein cows in a completely randomized design adjusted for covariance and four Holstein cows with rumen cannulae were used in a cross-over design. Treatments were: T1: grazing annual ryegrass day and night + 7 kg/day HMC-Dent (69.65 % DM, pH: 3.65) + 2 kg/day sunflower meal, and T2: idem T1 plus 7 kg/day HMC-Flinth (67.17 % DM, pH: 3.69) + 2 kg/day sunflower meal. Crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and in vitro DM digestibility of ryegrass were: 20.86%, 31.58%, 19.71% and 80.86%, respectively. HMC intake was similar in both treatments: 5.06 and 5.32 kg DM/day for T1 and T2, respectively. Milk yield was significantly higher in T2; however milk composition was not affected by treatments. Rumen fluid pH (T1: 5.91, T2: 6.08) and N-NH3 concentrations (T1: 10.35 mg/dl, T2:

      8.92 mg/dl) were similar in both treatments.
