  • In Humocaro Bajo, Lara State, at 1 120 masl the effect of using leucaena over milk yield was studied in bovines. The trial was conducted from May to November, during 169 days, using 16 Holstein cows assigned at random to 3 treatments balanced by age, number of lactations, body weight, lactancy days and milk yield level. The experimental design was a factorial array of 3x2x3, not balanced, with 3 replications in time. Treatment A consisted in guinea-grass grazing plus chopped king grass and 6 kg of concentrate/cow/day. Animals in treatments B and C, besides grasses and the concentrate (4 and 2 kg/cow/day respectively) had access to the leucaena plot during 2 h/day. Milk yield for treatment B (11,40 kg/cow/day) was significantly higher (P
