The consumption and growth of sheep grazing on herbage from citric plantations was studied. An experiment was made with three treatment and five repetitions, considering each animal as the experimental unit. Young West African sheep, weighing 14 kg; grazing from 8:00 am to 12:00 m, were lodged in individual yards where they were given forage complement ad libitum (T1); T1 + 300 g/day of Gliricidia sepium leaf (T2); or T1 + 150 g/day of G. sepium leaf + 150 g/day of corn flour (T3). The complement forage consumed, the suplement consumed, the total consumption and the weight gain (GDPV) were evaluated at 7 days periods during 75 days. Results indicated that T2 total intake was superior (P < .01). GDPV were: 124, 115, 73 g/day T3 = T2 > T1, respectively. Gliricidia sepium can be an important resourse in the integrated systems.
