  • The effect of cattle trampling on plant stand evolution of a pasture was studied. The pasture was composed of Medicago sativa, Trifolium pratense, Festuca arundinacea and Bromus catharticus. Cattle trampling increased the bulk density of the surface soil layer. As from the second year of the pasture, the soil compaction had a negative impact on the B. catharticus germination (resowing) and on the permanence of M. sativa plants, affecting therefore the total plant stand.
