This paper presents results of a rapid situacional diagnosis(R.S.D) realized by Fonaiap in 1996.This diagnosis was done to obtain microregional information, particularly of the agricultural sector in the medium Moroturo Valley. The farmers are discriminated as follow: 25 % livestock farmers, 34 % mixed and 41 % crop farmer. The new livestock explotations are characterized by bos indicus kind of animals. The number of animals in the herd varies from 3 to 65. The milk production average is 4±0.9 kg/cow/day. The R.S.D consisted of a direct survey completely randomized. The results of this survey show that, there are health troubles characterized by high mortality in calves(33 % of the farmer reported mortality) and high morbility among adult animals( 27 % of the farmer reported morbility). The most important pathological alterations are parasitic diarrhea (62.3 %), foot rot-foot and mouth disease (43 %), and mastitis (14.4 %). Eight percent of the farmer did an ineffective management of the calves, so, the herd has severe health problems. Some sanity practices used by farmer are: vaccinatión(90%), internal parasite control (87 %), and external parasite control (77 %). Prevention of disease is very insufficient. Most of expenses done by the farmers are oriented to buy veterinary products to control endo and ectoparasites. Among the technology transfer strategies decided by the project to help farmer to solve the problems mentioned above are training, transference and research.
