Presentamos las semblanzas de los llamados “apóstoles” de la educación física;
una representación del colectivo académico y profesional, que vinculados a la Escuela Central de Gimnástica (1887-1892), confi guraron la primera generación de profesores y profesoras ofi ciales de la educación física española. A la sazón, este colectivo que tratamos, doce hombres y una mujer, defendemos que es una muestra signifi cativa del liderazgo que ejercieron los profesores de educación física por legitimar la profesión y la materia en el ámbito de las luchas sociales de fi nales del siglo XIX y principios del XX
We present the similarities of the so-called “apostles” of the physical education, a representation of the academic and professional groups, which related to the Escuela Central de Gimnástica (1887-1892), created the fi rst generation of Spanish physical education offi cial instructors.
