La península ibérica tiene una gran oportunidad para convertirse en la plataforma logística del sur de Europa. Pero sólo la potenciación de los puertos del sur de Europa llevará a un reequilibrio de la UE. Para ello es imprescindible invertir en el transporte ferroviario de mercancías, esencial para el crecimiento, la competitividad y el empleo. Es necesario complementar la red ferroviaria actual con el corredor Cantábrico-Mediterráneo y el corredor Central. Unos ejes con prioridad para la mercancía que conectan la Península Ibérica y sus puertos con Europa cruzando por el centro del Pirineo, y continúan en Francia utilizando itinerarios alternativos como el eje POLT; y esto en el marco de un diálogo competitivo con participación público-privada. Sólo así seremos competitivos en Europa y en el mundo.

The Iberian Peninsula has an excellent opportunity to become the logistic platform for southern Europe. However, a rebalancing of the EU will only come about on the empowerment of the southern ports of Europe. To this end it is essential to invest in rail freight transport to ensure growth, competitiveness and employment. The current rail network has to be supplemented by the Cantabrian-Mediterranean and Central corridors. These freight-priority rail routes connect the Iberian Peninsula and Spanish ports with Europe, passing through the central Pyrenees and continuing on through France using alternative main line routes such as the Paris-Orleans-Limoges- Toulouse (POLT) route; and established within a framework of competitive dialogue and with public private partnerships. Spain�s competiveness in Europe and the world ultimately depends on the fulfilment of these projects.
