La necesidad de diálogo con una persona con la que se congenia y la necesidad irreprimible de encontrar en una figura predilecta la síntesis adecuada al hombre-poeta han llevado al poeta maltés Vassallo a ver en Leopardi no sólo al gran poeta digno de admiración como artista, sino sobre todo el personaje «histórico» que lleva a la práctica la unidad indisoluble entre el hombre que sufre y el que escribe.

The need for dialogue with a congenial person and the irrepressible need to find in a favorite figure the appropriate synthetic for the man-poet led the Maltese poet Vassallo to see in Leopardi not only the great poet worthy of admiration as an artist, but specially the «historical» character that puts into practice the indissoluble unity between the man who suffers and the writer.
