  • The article analyzes the results of a study by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) which revealed shortfalls in bank governance in 16 countries across eastern Europe and central Asia. It examines the legislation and practices of a large banks in Turkey, central Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus in the wake of the financial crisis in 2011. Topics discussed include the role of boards in internal governance, ownership structure, strategic and risk management.
