En España, el estudio de la monarquía en el siglo XIX se ha ocupado fundamentalmente de su dimensión política, centrándose en la redefinición del papel del monarca por parte del liberalismo. Sin embargo, aún son insuficientes los estudios realizados sobre el significado simbólico de la monarquía en el sistema político liberal. Este trabajo pretende pulsar el estado de la historiografía europea en busca de enfoques metodológicos y teóricos que puedan aplicarse al caso español. En este sentido, partimos de la idea de que el proceso de reconfiguración simbólica de la monarquía sobrepasa las fronteras nacionales, inscribiéndose en una dinámica trasnacional eminentemente europea
In Spain, the study of the monarchy in the 19th century has been primarily political, focusing on the redefinition of the role of the monarch by the liberalism of his.
