Resumen de Using a Google Jockey To Enhance Classroom Discussion

Laura E. Pence, Emily Greene, Harry E. Pence

  • While teaching an undergraduate level seminar class on environmental sustainability, it became apparent that many students lacked the experience to provide a rich set of mental images that would help to frame this topic. To respond to this situation, the authors of this paper employed a Google jockey during class discussions. A Google jockey is a student who surfs the World Wide Web for related material and displays the results to the class during a lecture or discussion. The strength of the Google jockey is that the images she or he finds enrich the ongoing conversation. A Google jockey seems particularly well suited to classes such as seminars, chemistry for nonscience majors, or lectures involving practical contexts.
