Validación de la escala de pensamiento mágico: profecías apocalípticas y afectividad negativa

     La presente investigación tiene como objetivo validar la Escala de Pensamiento Mágico creada en México (EPM-24) considerando como criterios convergentes la creencia en las profecías apocalípticas de 2012, ansiedad-rasgo (STAI-T), estrés (PSS-14) y depresión (BDI-II). Se usó una muestra por cuotas de sexo de 424 participantes. La estructura de dos factores correlacionados tiene un ajuste adecuado, aunque se requiere eliminar el ítem 3, que mejora la consistencia interna (α = 0.85). La distribución de EPM-23 fue asimétrica positiva. El promedio fue significativamente menor en no creyentes en las profecías y personas sin religión. Se obtuvo correlación inversa con la edad y escolaridad y directa con ansiedad-rasgo, estrés y depresión. Se concluye que la escala EPM-23 es consistente y muestra evidencias de validez.

    The aim of this research is to validate the Magical Thinking Scale (epm-24), that was created in Mexico, considering as convergent criterion: the belief in the apocalyptic prophecies of 2012, trait anxiety (stai-t), stress (pss-14) and depression (bdi-ii). We used a sex quota sample of 424 participants. The correlated two-factor structure has an adequacy fit, although it requires removing item 3, which improves the internal consistency (α = 0.85). The distribution of the epm-23 total score was positively skewed. The average was significantly lower for prophecies in non-believers and people without religion. The epm-23 scale correlated inversely with age and education and directly with trait-anxiety, stress and depression. It is concluded that the epm-23 scale is consistent and shows evidence of validity.
