Hegoaldeko euskal probintzietatik kostaldean dauden bietako inork ez du ibai handirik, ibai merkataritza ahalbideratzeko modukorik. Hala ere, ibilguen azkeneko zatiak oso baliagarriak izan dira beti, asmamenari eta esfortzuari esker, nabigagarri bilakatu baitira. Bedua, Zumaiatik hiru kilometrora, portu enblematikoa zen Euskal Herriko ibai garraioan. Portu horren izena duen familiaren lurretan Bizkaiko burdina jasotzen zen, eta bere lonjara inguruan egiten ziren burdinazko erremintak iristen ziren, xede nagusi Sevilla izaten zutenak. Kokaleku ezin hobe horrek inbidiak eta liskarrak sortu zituen, baina bertan burutzen ziren jarduerek agerian uzten dute Euskal Herriak Aro Modernoan izan zuen goraldia.
The two Basque coastal provinces of Hegoalde have no rivers large enough for river trade; however, the final sections of their courses have been extremely profitable thanks to the ingenuity and efforts that have made them navigable. Located 3 km from Zumaia, Bedua is one of the Basque Country's emblematic river ports. The land that belonged to the family whose name has been given to the port contained Biscay's iron ore and its market stored local-made iron tools that were shipped mainly to Seville. Its privileged situation gave rise to much envy and litigation, but its activities show the splendour of the Basque Country throughout the period from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution.
