Poliulceración en paciente terminal: úlceras de Kennedy. Plan de cuidados paliativos

    Las Úlceras Terminales de Kennedy (KTU) son una poliulceración por presión específica de pacientes terminales. Afectan más a los pacientes sin patología oncológica. El abordaje debe ser holístico y paliativo: proporcionar confort que asegure una muerte digna. Elaboramos un plan de actuación de enfermería que lograse la implicación de los familiares, y de las alumnas de enfermería, en los cuidados de una paciente en estado terminal con KTU. Tras la valoración de las lesiones se realizaron curas en ambiente hú- medo. El objetivo principal fue el control del olor y el dolor. Conseguimos lograr el confort de la paciente, quien realizó un digno tránsito hacia la muerte con su familia. Abordar la curación de las KTU con la meta del cierre de las lesiones es un error. En los pacientes terminales se debe priorizar el confort y el bienestar evitando el abandono de las UPP y la agravación de las existentes.

    The Kennedy Terminal Ulcers (KTU) are a multiple ulceration due to the specific pressure of terminal patients. It affects more to non-oncological pathology patients. The approach must be holistic and palliative: to provide comfort that ensures a dignified death. We elaborated a nursing care plan that achieved the involvement of family members and nursing students in the care of a patient in terminal status with KTU. After the assessmen of the injuries, they were healed in humid environment.

    The main objective was to control of the smell and the pain. We managed to achieve the comfort of the patient, who made a worthy route to death with his family. Addressing the KTU cure with the goal of closing the lesions is a mistake.

    In terminal patients, we should prioritize comfort and well-being, avoiding the abandonment of the UPP and the aggravation of the existing ones.
