La "sociedad mundial" y la carencia de reflexiones normativas en las teorías sociales de Niklas Luhmann y Norbert Elias

El actual debate de la globalización provoca revisiones de las teorías políticas y sociales conocidas. Los resultados son sorprendentes: la mayoría de las teorías políticas y sociales modernas hacen, por lo menos implícitamente, referencia a lo que hoy en día llamamos globalización. En algunas de estas teorías las tendencias globalizantes ocupan un lugar central alrededor del cual estas teorías circulan. Este es el caso de las teorías de Niklas Luhmann y de Norbert Elias, que en este artículo revisaré. La duda que subyace en el estudio de estas dos teoría es: si en ellas encontramos respuestas para los desafíos teóricos actuales. Mi critica frente a estas dos teorías se refiere a la manera en la cual en ellas se trata el problema de la normatividad.

The current debate on globalization has triggered revisions of existing modem political and social theories. The results are astonishing: the majority of modern political and social theones have always, at least implicitly, refered to what today is called globalization. For some of these theones the globalizing tendencies have even represented the center of gravity around which these theories revolve. This is the case of the theories of Niklas Luhmam and Norbert Elias, which 1 will revise in this paper. The leading question of this scmtiny is, whether these two theories contain answers to the theoretical challenges of our days. My critique of these two theories concerns their ways of handling the problem of normativity. The lirnitation is the result of the fragmentation of social control which prevails in the area.
