En México se ha construido una gran paradoja de tintes culturales y políticos. Por una parte, los índices de analfabetismo funcional son enormes, de hecho, una cultura de no lectura caracteriza a la sociedad contemporánea. Sin embargo, existe un grupo intelectual detentador de un poder específico que lo hace verse a sí mismo con una autoridad lo suficientemente cimentada como para influir y señalar los caminos que el poder político debiera seguir. Los rasgos identitarios constituyentes del ente conocido como “República de las letras” se basan en el manejo adecuado del lenguaje, lo cual refiere a la posibilidad de mejor entendimiento del mundo e incluso a la posibilidad de construirlo. Desde el poder los escritores son vistos con recelo y admiración, intenta coptarlos o los persigue, busca que ellos aprueben sus actos, su crítica le perturba. Soberanos en sus respectivas repúblicas, los escritores y el poder constituyen una dualidad por demás interesante para el estudio y la comprensión de la vida política cultural contemporánea.

The republican duality. In Mexico a big paradox of cultural and political tints has been built. Sovereigns in their respective republics, the writers and the power constitute a duality excessively interesting for the study and the understanding of the contemporary cultural political life.
