Resumen de Recursos para la frontera Araucana: Santiago de Chile Y Mendóza en el siglo XVII

  Debido a que las colonias en Hispanoamérica establecieron múltiples relaciones con los nativos de sus fronteras, la mayoría de los enfoques históricos son, precisamente, sobre las relaciones interétnicas. Conocemos menos sobre las relaciones que algunas de aquellas sociedades establecieron entre sí como consecuencia de la existencia de una frontera interétnica. Este será nuestro tema, tomando los casos de Santiago de Chile y Mendoza. Ubicadas geográficamente en la periferia austral del virreinato del Perú y a pesar de estar alejadas de la frontera militarizada con los araucanos, ambas colonias fueron afectadas por las demandas de recursos humanos y naturales que hacía el ejército imperial ubicado en las orillas del río Bíobio desde principios del siglo XVII. Consideraremos, entonces, cómo la frontera araucana afectó a Mendoza, indirectamente, a través de los requerimientos de Santiago de Chile por las presiones que esta misma ciudad tuvo al tener que ayudar al sostén de las tropas.

  Owing to the fact that the Spanish American colonies established multiple relationships with the natives of their frontiers, most historical approaches precisely refer to interethnic relationships. We know little about the relationships that some of those societies established amongst themselves as a consequence of the existence of an interethnic frontier. This will be our subject, taking cases of Santiago de Chile and Mendoza. Placed geographically in the southern outskirts of the Peruvian viceroyalty and despite of being far from the militarised frontier with the Araucanian, both colonies were affected by the demands of human and natural resources made by the imperial army established on the banks of the Bio-Bio River from the early XVIIth century. We will consider, therefore, how the Araucanian frontier affected Mendoza, indirectly, due to the demands of Santiago de Chile because of the pressure put upon that city to help maintain the troops.
