  • Resumen
    • The recycling industry has been observed and analyzed by economics primarily by its ability to offer secondary raw material to the production sector. Using structural data of firms that perform the production of solid waste in the cities of Cuiabá and Várzea Grande in Mato Grosso-Brazil, we demonstrate the behavior of variability of 17 indicators consisting of productive factors of this firms. The empirical model developed used factor analysis to reduce the explanatory factors and identify those with lower and higher efficiency considering the market structure. The main results suggest some dependence of firms in relation to scavengers; the firms are pressured by a downstream industry that does not allow to get better prices; the industry has some market concentration; the industry has the installed capacity to increase recycling rates if economic and command and control policies are offered.
