L’assaig se centra en l’obra assagística de Joan Fuster que es llegeix des de la perspectiva del concepte de «modernitat». Una modernitat que es pot llegir de dos punts de vista que poden conviure contemporàniament: en un primer cas, es pot entendre l’obra de Fuster des de l’impacte del món del pensament nascut amb la Il·lustració i que s’encarna posteriorment sobretot en el pensament científic i la idea de progrés. Però també es pot llegir des del pensament crític que ha qüestionat els límits o la validesa de la mateixa modernitat. En l’article es reflexiona a partir de l’horitzó de significats que Fuster pogué atribuir, per la seva formació i reflexió, al concepte i la seva crítica.

This essay is centred around the work of Joan Fuster, which can be read from the perspective of the concept of “modernity”. Modernity that can be read from two points of view which can coexist in contemporary times: in the first case, the work of Fuster can be understood from the impact of the world of thought born from the Enlightenment and which later on became incarnate especially within scientific thought and the idea of progress. But it can also be read from the perspective of critical thought that has questioned the limits and the validity of modernity itself. The article analyzes things from the point of view that Fuster provided to the concept and his reviews based on his training and reflection.
