A reading of the review directed by the Italian psychiatrist Cesare Lombroso lets the author consider the evolution of the main concerns of the Italian school of criminal anthropology during the late 19th Century. The building of a “scientific” explanation of the social behavior of south Italy people is specially studied, so as the incidence of the social modernization process in the evolution of school points of view facing the 20th Century.
