La aparición del tema de la lucha de caballeros en el Románico no puede distanciarse del mundo de la frontera y el ambiente bélico de los siglos XI y XII. La representación más habitual es el enfrentamiento de dos jinetes con lanzas y traje de combate, aunque pueden aparecer con infantería u otros jinetes. Suele realizarse una interpretación adscrita al plano moral, entendiéndose como la lucha entre el caballero cristiano y el enemigo musulmán, pudiendo ser distinguidos por la distinta forma del arma defensiva.

The depictions of the Knight Combat in Romanesque are clearly related to the continuous warlike atmosphere during the 11th-12th centuries. During the 12th century, this topic was at the height of its fame. Besides the Jousting depictions, the prevalent one was the approach to the moral by means of the depiction of the combat between the Christian Knight and the Moor enemy. Both appeared riding a horse and could be distinguished by the different shape of their defensive weapons.
