    La instal·lació d’un barracó de fira a Elx, El Palacio del Sol, entre 1911 i 1912, per part d’un pioner empresari de Barcelona, ens permet conéixer el primer model de la tipologia arquitectònica al servei del cinematógraf a la ciutat, la forma més antiga d’exhibició comercial de pel·lícules. Aquest primer edifici exclusiu partí de l’arquitectura dels teatres del segle xix repetint la voluntat espacial (vestíbul, pati de butaques i teló de fons) del model en què basava les seues característiques. Com que el cinematògraf fou entés sempre com un negoci, calia que l’evolució funcional de la tipologia estiguera lligada a la rendibilitat, de manera que destaquen de l’edifici les exuberants formes de la façana, que devien actuar com a reclam per a atraure el públic, juntament amb la programació. Els programes de mà conservats al AHME ens han permés establir una relació de pel·lícules; incompleta, però valuosa per a entendre els gustos d’aquella època

    The setting-up of a fair stall in Elx between 1911 and 1912, which was property of a pioneering businessman of Barcelona, allows us to know the first model of the architectural typology in the service of the cinema in the town, the most ancient form of commercial exhibition of films. This first exclusive building started from the architecture of the theatres of the 19th century repeating the spatial will (hall, courtyard of armchairs and backdrop) of the model in which it based its characteristics. Since the use of the film projector had always been conceived as a business it was necessary that the functional evolution of the typology was tied to the profitability, emphasizing from the building the exuberant forms of the façade, which must act as call to attract the public, together with the programming. The fliers preserved in the AHME allow us to establish a list of films, incomplete but valuable to understand the tastes of that period.
