En este texto se pretende evidenciar el tipo de relación que existe entre las palabras y las imágenes en la novela Elogio de la madrastra del escritor peruano Mario Vargas Llosa. Para tal propósito, se utilizan las nociones de simultaneidad y écfrasis literaria, desarrolladas por Áron Kibédi Varga y Michael Riffaterre, respectivamente. En conexión con lo anterior, se profundiza en las funciones simbólicas que cumplen las imágenes en la obra y en el vínculo que estas trazan con los personajes que conforman el triángulo erótico que se presenta en la novela: don Rigoberto, doña Lucrecia y Fonchito.

This text aims to demonstrate the type of relationship that exists between words and images in the novel Elogio de la madrastra by the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa. The concepts of simultaneity and literary ekphrasis, developed by Áron Kibédi Varga and Michael Riffaterre, respectively, are employed to this end. The essay then delves into the symbolic functions performed by the images in the novel and the bond that they create with the characters that make up the erotic triangle describedin the novel: between don Rigoberto, doña Lucrecia and Fonchito.
