Resumen de Estudios etnobotánicos en la provincia de Castellón
The author exposes the field work made in Castelló de la Plana (Mediterranean coast of Spain), about popular uses and indications of medicinal plants. There were found 2 16 new indications for plant species (mainly in digestive, liver and gallbladder, hearth and skin diseases).
There were listed 1793 popular names for plant species; and 1856 different uses for plants. In 104 species there were no records of previous medicinal use, and 165 species had a pharmaceutical use before. There is a special mention to the «seven bloods» herb (Lithodora fruticosa (L.) Griseb.), form the Boragineaceae family. lt exposes the different towns and uses of this herb, and also of its preparation in the popular formulary. In many cases, the magical aspects of folk medicine. is related to the good use of the herbal preparations.
