In spite of its evident harm, episiotomy is yet a routine practice in the hospitalary delivery. There are some traditional arguments to defend a systematic practice of episiotomy in delivery, but these arguments are now contradictory with the last scientific researches, which demonstrate that episiotomy is a very traumatic routine. It's not an advisable protection against prolapses. Episiotomy it's not a good protection against tears either. lts postnatal consequences are very harmful for the mother: privation of physical autonomy to take care ofherself and her sons; negative effects of pain killers in the creation of mother-baby link and abstruct breast-feeding; sex life maybe damaged. Better than episiotomy is a good preparation of perineal before delivery.
