The danish ministry of health made a study about theories of "alternative" medicine. Terms like Naturheilkunde, soft, wholistic, complementary, paralel, unconventional or alternative are used to designate these methods, but today's alternatives can be official in a future, and viceversa, as history shows us.
Between 20% and 70% of european population uses them almost 1 time in their life. The most known methods are acupunture, homoeopathy, phytotherapy and manipulative therapies, and the percent of MD's using them vary from country to country being most popular several methods than others in several countries.
Several european universities have begun studies in these therapies, usually without official recognition. Health insurance services and research are usually scarce.
