Maca (Lepidium peruvianum) is a plant that grows in the high planes of peruvian mountains, still following the ancient systems of culture. The phytochemistry shows that Maca contain s mainly alkaloids, glycosinolates, steroids, triterpenes, flavonoids, saponines, coumarines and tannins. Veterinary studies have shown a fertilizing action over cattle (mainly sheeps and veal) increasing the number and genetical health of offspring. There is a need of clinical studies over human subjects, that are lacking.
