  • The article discusses how the Renaissance Italian writer Pietro Bembo describes in his letters and other writings the then ongoing work by Costantino Lascaris, a Greek of Byzantine origin, to translate into Latin the Odyssey by Homer. Among other topics addressed are the history of the translation work and final publication of the translation, philological and textual criticism of the translation, and its relation to a similar translation of at least 12 books of the Iliad.
