In this article the author discusses the history of I Tatti, an Italian villa built in the 15th century and located near the city of Florence. A number of issues are addressed including questions of ownership of the property, churches and parishes in the vicinity and the eventual possession of the house by art historian Bernard Berenson. Other topics include governance under the Medici family, patronage of the high altarpiece, income from church property, and demographic change and survival of families.
