Hace ya veinticinco años que en Austria se empezó a fomentar sistemáticamente la investigación. Al sancionar en 1967 la Ley de Promoción de la investigación, el Consejo Nacional instituía dos fondos autónomos que desde entonces vienen financiando planes de investigación con medios públicos. Tres años después -y atendiendo a una recomendación de la OCDE- se creaba el Ministerio Federal de Ciencia e Investigación, que es instancia capital en materia de política investigadora.

It is now twenty-five years since the systematic promotion of research began in Austria. When the National Council enacted the Law on the Promotion of Research in 1967, it set up two autonomous funds which ever since that time have been financing research plans with public resources. Three years later, in reponse to a recommendation from the OECD, the Federal Ministry of Science and Research was set up, which is the chief body responsible for research policy.
