  • The article proposes a new method of looking at and analyzing medieval European printmaking and prints, by focusing on their functionality, rather than their technique, style, or aesthetics. The author points out that these images in museums and libraries should be presented to show their full context, such as the "Christ on the Mount of Olives," print that was part of a larger manuscript, presented at the Guildhall Library in London, England, "Saint Catherine," of the Bamberg manuscript in a library in Germany, and the "Vision of Saint Bernard," in the library of Nuremberg, Germany.
